Nancy and Felix Iovanni walked to the Dante Club this afternoon to cast ballots for Michael Capuano, the local congressman who grew up a few houses from the home where they have lived for half a century in the Spring Hill section of this working class city "Good boy," Felix Iovanni said. "We've known him since he was a kid."

    December 07, 2009

    Mansfield News and Enterprise

As Mansfield voters who plan to vote in the December 8 special primary for US Senate, we are excited that the Democratic Party ballot presents an embarrassment of riches. Each candidate brings needed vision and unique qualifications to the race. But we believe that one stands above the rest in this very stellar field: U S Representative Michael Capuano.

In Final Weekend Push, Capuano Says He’s 'Within The Margin Of Error'

    December 06, 2009

    WBUR

Friday night found Rep. Michael Capuano in East Boston, at a Christmas dinner held by Latinos United in Massachusetts. The group asked him to promise he would get immigration reform passed next year if elected to the U.S. Senate. Capuano told the audience he is happy to stand with them on the issue but warned it would be tough to get it through Congress in 2010, because it’s an election year.

Watertown TAB endorsement: Fightin' Mike Capuano for Senate

    December 04, 2009

    Watertown TAB

If you’re a registered Democrat or unenrolled voter, you can cast a ballot in Tuesday’s Democratic primary to fill Ted Kennedy’s former Senate seat. All four Democrats are serious, accomplished candidates who would bring different strengths to the job. But the candidate best able to represent Watertown is Congressman Mike Capuano. It’s not just that Capuano has already represented the town in Washington, as he did in 1999-2002 when the 8th District included Watertown. It’s that of the four Democrats, Capuano has a very “Watertown” sensibility. He’s no nonsense. Blunt. Scrappy.

    Capuano best choice

    December 04, 2009

    The Daily News

I am writing to express my support for Congressman Mike Capuano in the race for U.S. Senate. While there are other good candidates in the race for the Democratic nomination, I feel strongly that his personal qualities of passion and pragmatism would make Congressman Capuano a great senator for Massachusetts.

    December 04, 2009

Rita Mercier and Patrick Murphy Endorse Capuano for Senate

    December 04, 2009

    Think Murphy

As we look forward toward the Lowell City Council’s coming term, many challenges await us. While we ourselves cannot wait for help from the federal government to meet these, who we choose as our next United States Senator could have a profound effect on the kind of support our city receives in these difficult times. We are confident that Congressman Michael Capuano is the best choice to be our voice in Washington.

    Endorsement: Congressman Michael Capuano

    December 04, 2009

From the Desk of Socks, The White House

Congressman Capuano has reached out to me the most in this race. I received two phone calls at home inviting me to live town hall conference calls with him. In one case I got to ask him a question. I was invited to a special conference call for Boston bloggers, and I ended up writing about my conversation.

Capuano pays Sunday a.m. visit to local pub

    December 04, 2009

    Jamaica Plain Gazette

With strong endorsements from four prominent Jamaica Plain elected officials, US Rep. Mike Capuano made a high-energy pitch for why he should be promoted to the US Senate at Doyle’s Café Nov. 22. The Sunday morning event drew over 100 people to a back room at the storied Washington Street political pub—“The church of politics in Jamaica Plain,” said Capuano, who represents most of Boston, Cambridge, Somerville and Chelsea.

Senate Candidate Profile-Capuano: wants to change world

    December 04, 2009

    The Duxbury Reporter

Michael Capuano has represented Massachusetts’ 8th congressional district for more than a decade, worked nearly as long as Somerville’s mayor and for years before that as a city alderman. Yet the Dartmouth-educated Congressman, who holds a law degree from Boston College Law School, considers himself the “underdog” of the Democratic race for the late Edward M. Kennedy’s Senate seat.

In Our Opinion: Into Kennedy's shadow

    December 04, 2009

    Hampshire Gazette

Capuano is a progressive on national political issues, opposing the war in Iraq and the Patriot Act. He supports abortion rights and gay marriage and opposes the death penalty. Colleagues in Congress say you always know where he stands and they describe him as a tough fighter for things he believes in. He pressed for passage of a national highway tunnel inspection program after the Big Dig ceiling collapse.

    Capuano for Senate

    December 04, 2009

    The Harvard Crimson

Congressman Tip O’Neill famously said, “All politics is local.” If that’s true, we hope that Harvard students are paying attention to the local election taking place next Tuesday: the primaries for the Senate seat formerly held by Edward M. Kennedy ’54-’56. On the Democratic side, there is one candidate who best seems to follow in the tradition of great representatives like Kennedy or O’Neill—whose congressional seat he now holds. This candidate is Michael E. Capuano, and we strongly endorse his candidacy for the Senate.

    Editorial: Capuano for Senate

    December 03, 2009

Norwood Daily News Transcript & Bulletin

In the race to succeed the late Edward Kennedy as U.S. Senator, only one of the four Democratic candidates has the legislative background necessary to get immediately to work representing his Massachusetts constituents, ensuring they have the healthcare they need and that their jobs and investments are secure. The stakes are too high right now for any candidate to learn on the job. Besides the ravaged economy and the tense healthcare debate, a new senator will have to face major votes in the near future on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the climate, and immigration. With political experience ranging from Somerville city alderman to Congressman, Michael Capuano is best prepared to help both the state and the nation as a senator.

    I Like Mike

    Massachusetts Liberal

It takes a certain amount of conceit for a newspaper to endorse a candidate, presuming it has the wisdom to select the right person for elective office.

The thought of individual endorsements is almost as laughable, although a well-placed or highly regarded individual backing some is a little more reasonable. Oprah certainly didn’t hurt Barack Obama.

Capuano won't retreat from issues Kennedy championed

    December 03, 2009

    Cape Cod Times

Like preschoolers pounding a square peg into a round hole, three of the Democratic senatorial candidates strain to fit their resumes to the job of replacing the late Sen. Ted Kennedy. Instead they only highlight their complete lack of any direct legislative experience. This is a race for the U.S. Senate! The current health care debate shows what a tough place it can be, a place where you don't have the luxury of just promoting issues everyone can applaud. In contrast, Rep. Michael Capuano has 12 years of facing tough votes in Congress.

    Editorial: Mike Capuano for Senate

    December 03, 2009

    The Brookline TAB

All four Democrats jostling to fill the late Ted Kennedy’s Senate seat are serious, accomplished candidates who would bring different strengths to the job. But for Brookline voters, we think Rep. Mike Capuano offers the best combination of liberal ideals and gritty pragmatism — two qualities we feel are crucial to the issues that will face Massachusetts and the nation in the near future. Capuano has proven with his voting record that he is willing to make gutsy choices. He opposed No Child Left Behind because he knew it was an unfunded mandate that placed an insupportable burden on many of the struggling schools it was supposed to help. He voted against the war in Iraq when much of the nation, and his own party, was willing to give the president the benefit of the doubt in the face of questionable evidence and lack of international support. He opposed the Patriot Act when so many were willing to give the president carte blanche in the name of safety.
